The Body Shop is proud to partner with The Reach Foundation for our anti-bullying campaign – ‘You are better than Bullying’.

Together we want to raise awareness of bullying, an understanding of the impact and a movement away from this type of behaviour.

From the 18th – 24th of March thousands of Australians participated in the Walk In Her Shoes challenge; taking the first step to raise awareness and funds for women, girls and communities in developing countries.

WSPA

We partnered with WSPA to create the ‘Humane Chain’. More than 80,000 people signed up and symbolically linked to show their solidarity with animals.

Aiming for 40,000 customers to leave a finger print and commit to constructive conversations about racism with friends, family and colleagues. 50,000 finger prints collected.

Climate Friendly

Celebrate The Body Shop 12% Co2e emission reductions from 2007 levels and our first year of offsetting all emissions from our cars, gas, electricity and flights (effectively making us "carbon neutral"). Educate people that taking immediate, effective action on climate change is truly possible.

The Big Issue

The Big Issue (Introducing the Women's Subscription Enterprise) Raised awareness on women’s homelessness and the Women Subscription Enterprise by selling subscriptions of The Big Issue Magazine and collected messages of support for women joining the Enterprise.

Your Beauty and Worth Cannot be Measured

Highlighting dangers of restrictive dieting and excessive exercise. Encourage staff and customers to believe beautiful, healthy people come in all shapes and sizes. 26,000 signatures to the Minister for Health & Ageing, requesting eating disorders become a major health priority.

Rethink Refugees

A series of rotating posters campaigning on behalf of asylum seekers and refugees in Australia. Aiming to shift public opinion by addressing key myths.

White Ribbon Day

Continued support of White Ribbon Day, raising funds for the White Ribbon Foundation and community awareness of the need to prevent violent and abusive relationships.

Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People

Educate Australians to identify and report suspicions of Child Sex Abuse in their travels overseas, in Australia and online. Further fund programs overseas preventing children being supplied to traffickers, protect and rehabilitate child sex slaves. (256,000+) signatures petitioning the Australian Govt to fund community based international development programs focusing on prevention and protection of child sex trafficking survivors.

Aiming for 40,000 signatures; a person signing for every sheep that dies on route each year.  63,000 customers joined the humane chain.

Respect

Joined with ANTaR (Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation) to bridge the gap between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians. A gap represented by inequality in health, a 17 year difference in life expectancy, poor education, housing, standard of living and lack of career opportunities.

Yes, Yes, Yes to Safe Sex

Help the fight against HIV by practicing safe sex and buying a lip butter to fund global HIV awareness work of the Staying Alive Foundation.

60th Anniversary

Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Celebrate a landmark year for human rights. December 10, 2008 marks 60 years since the introduction of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

To engage The Body Shop staff and customers to write to Prime Minister Rudd requesting action on climate change and the urgent need to set a target to reduce Australia’s spiralling greenhouse pollution with 30% reduction in greenhouse pollution by 2020.

Get Lippy- Prevent HIV

For the second year running, The Body Shop and MTV International worked together to prevent the spread of HIV. By educating the young, we aimed  to promote long-term attitudinal and behavioural change towards the disease.

Stop HIV. Spray to Change Attitudes

To change attitudes and behaviours towards HIV and AIDS. Introduce a limited edition of The Body Shop and MTV version of the Rougeberry Fragrance to raise funds for the Staying Alive Foundation.

Deranged or Free to Range

The Body Shop Australia Deranged – or free to range national campaign, coordinated by Animal Liberation, aimed to phase out and ban the inhumane treatment of pig (sow) stalling in Australia.

Celebrate Cultural Diversity

Aimed to create an understanding of the positivity of diversity and mulitculturalism.To create an understanding of who is a refugee and why. To diminish fear of refugees – both as individual people and as a threat to our country.

Against Animal Testing

The Body Shop Australia ran an Against Animal Testing awareness campaign over the Easter period, encouraging customers to purchase ethical and non animal tested products.

Ban The Battery Hen

Ban the Battery Hen – In-store campaign targeting the relevant Minister in each state to impose a ban on the production and supply of eggs which come from battery hen farms.

Body Image and Ageing

Celebrating the International Year of the Older Person the stereotypes and fallacy surrounding ageing were challenged with the distribution of the publication “Full Voice, Body Image and Ageing”.

Thumbs up for Reconciliation

100, 000+ Australians gave their thumbs up for reconciliation committing to “a united Australia, which respects this land of ours, values the indigenous heritage and provides justice and equity for all”.

Against Animal Testing Find Out and Ban It

Awareness campaign for consumers to find out the facts about animal testing and a petition to the EU to endorse a ban on animal testing of cosmetic products and ingredients for the cosmetic industry throughout Europe. 120,000 signatures were collected in Australia and New Zealand, and 4 million worldwide for the ban. The ban was deferred.

Think, Act, Change

Awareness campaign on ethical consumerism.

Ogoni Campaign

Letter writing campaign protesting the death sentence pronounced for Ken Saro –Wiwa and eight other Ogoni activists. Because of their barbaric execution on November 10, 1995 The Body Shop redoubled efforts on behalf of the Ogoni.

Would they do it in Paris?

The Body Shop Australia and NZ campaigned with Greenpeace against the French nuclear weapons testing in the South Pacific. (1,000,000 signatures) presented to French Parliament and French President by a delegation of indigenous youth from the South Pacific.

Stop Woodchipping Old Growth Forests

Partnered the ACF and Wilderness Socitey to stop woodchipping in 1300 areas of high conservation value. 35, 000 postcards sent to PM asking him to protect threatened forest areas. Representatives of The Body Shop took part in three way discussions with government, forestry industry and the Green movement.

Covering Illegal Trade In Endangered Species

Petition campaign (Aus & NZ) to enforce regulations covering illegal trade in endangered species. 427,000 signatures collected.

Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary

Worked with WWF petitioning the Int Whaling Commission to establish a whale sanctuary in the Southern Ocean.  Distributed Greenpeace postcards calling on Presidents of Chile and South Korea to support the sanctuary 25 000 signatures + sanctuary  established.

Amnesty International

The Body Shop marked Amnesty International’s 30th anniversary with a letter-writing campaign and membership drive.

Against Animal Testing

Campaign in opposition to EU proposal requiring mandatory animal testing of cosmetic ingredients. 100, 000 signatures collected.

Endangered species campaign

Launched Animals In Danger soaps, raised $10,500 for World Wildllife Fund (WWF) endangered species programmes and petitioned UK and US governments to support a ban on mining in Antarctica.

Moon Bears

In partnership with Animals Australia, campaigned to raise money to help free Moon Bears in China.  The Moon Bears are milked for their bile which is then used in traditional medicine.

Amnesty International

Letter writing campaign and sale of badges for fundraising.

No Forests No Future

Awareness on rainforest destruction in our region particularly Malaysia (Sarawak) and PNG. Raised funds for NGOs working on deforestation issues in these regions.

Against Animal Testing

Awareness campaign for consumers to find out the facts about animal testing

Stop the Burning

Campaign to halt burning of the Brazilian rainforests.

Ozone or No Zone

Awareness campaign on ozone depletion and petitioned Federal government to phase out use of Chloroflurocarbons and halons.

Save the whale

Highlighting the illegal trade in endangered species; the 'Save the Whale' campaign, run with Greenpeace, focused on jojoba, a new ingredient for use in cosmetics, as a replacement for sperm whale oil.
