After this period, World Land Trust will watch over the forest for a ten-year period, periodically inspecting and measuring trees at years three, five and ten.
In addition the seedlings will be weeded regularly by local partner Pro-Bosque until they can be left to grow on their own. As the seeds are a mix of different species, they will be free to grow at different speeds, so some fast growing will be free to grow in tree yeas, while others will need care and attention for five years.
The Body Shop will be funding this project from the profits of its launch og the Oils of LiveTM skincare range.
We will divert 10 pence from the sale of each product in the range to the seed project. We estimate that this will fund the seed project after three months of sales following the launch of Oils of LifeTM skincare range.
The Cerro Blanco Reserve covers some 6,078 ha on the slopes of the coastal Cordillera Chongon Colonche in south west Ecuador.
The reserve is owned and managed by World Land Trust project partner, Foundación Pro-Bosque, an Ecuadorian non-profit, conservation organisation.
Despite being so close to the bustling city of Guayaquil, the Cerro Blanco Reserve is one of the best remaining examples of biodiversity-rich seasonally dry forest in the region of south-west Ecuador.
Those working on the reforestation on Cerro Blanco come from the local community and have strong engagement with local schools.
