Explore Massage & Body Oils at The Body Shop
Treat yourself to The Body Shop’s collection of massage and body oils. The range includes Community Fair Trade ingredients such as lavender essential oil from Haute-Provence in France, vetiver essential oil from Madagascar, and organic olive oil from Italy. Each formula helps soften skin while supporting the communities that grow and harvest these ingredients.
What are the benefits of body oils compared to lotions?
Body oils contain natural fatty acids from ingredients such as sweet almond, jojoba, and coconut oil. These help soften and condition skin with regular use. Oils create a light barrier that helps seal in moisture, while water-based lotions can evaporate more quickly.
Because body oils do not contain water, they usually require fewer preservatives. This can make them suitable for people with sensitive or reactive skin. Some oils can also be used as hair treatments, giving you more ways to use a single product.
How should I apply massage oil for the best results?
Warm a small amount between your palms and apply it to clean skin. Massage oil works best after a bath or shower while the skin is still slightly damp, as this helps the oil absorb. Then, use long, upward strokes towards the heart and spend more time on areas that often hold tension, such as the shoulders, calves, and soles of the feet.
Our massage oils include blends of sweet almond, grapeseed, jojoba, and Community Fair Trade sesame seed oil from Nicaragua. This combination allows hands to glide easily while the oil absorbs without leaving residue on clothing or bedding.
Can massage oils help with relaxation and sleep?
The Body Shop’s massage oil range includes blends created for evening routines. These contain 100% natural lavender essential oil from France and vetiver essential oil from Madagascar.
Lavender has long been associated with calm, while vetiver is known for its earthy scent. The combination of scent, massage, and relaxing body products can help create a calming routine before sleep. While not a medical treatment, using massage oil regularly in the evening can help signal to your body that it is time to rest.
Which body oil is right for my skin type?
For oily or combination skin, lighter oils with coconut oil and tiare flower absorb quickly and feel light on the skin. They work well as a post-shower body oil and can also help manage frizz in hair.
For dry or mature skin, richer blends with sweet almond oil, Community Fair Trade organic olive oil from Italy, and jojoba oil offer deeper nourishment. If your skin is reactive, it is best to patch test first because the formulas contain natural essential oil fragrances.
About The Body Shop's Community Fair Trade sourcing
The oils contain ingredients sourced through The Body Shop’s Community Fair Trade programme. The programme has been running since 1987 and is independently audited by ECOCERT.
It works with thousands of producers, farmers, and artisans around the world. These include the Tungteiya Women’s Association in northern Ghana, olive oil producers in Italy, sesame seed farmers in Nicaragua, and monoi oil suppliers in French Polynesia.
Partners receive fair prices, favourable trade terms, and access to community development funds. These funds have supported projects such as schools, medical centres, and sanitation facilities in sourcing communities.
